The “Story of NEWS” is one that started in 1981 with a shoestring budget and a mission to create safety and hope for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Since 1981 we have grown to learn that in order to truly provide safe futures, survivors need so much more than shelter, but also court services and housing and economic self-sufficiency; mental health and medical services; and, child care and children’s services.

Over the years, there have always been kind people and community partners standing beside us. As we launch our 2021 end-of-year fundraising campaign this #GivingTuesday, we hope we can count on people like you to continue to help us help survivors. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support, and believing everyone deserves safety and hope.

May this holiday season bring peace and joy to you and your family.

Best wishes,

Tracy Lamb, Executive Director

Once upon a time, 40 years ago, there was a beautiful valley, surrounded by rolling mountains and noble vineyards. This place was magical, not only for its beauty, but because of the kind and gentle people who lived there. Unfortunately, not everyone who lived there treated others with kindness and respect, and at times, they hurt their loved ones. Those hurt needed to be safe so they could protect themselves and their children. Some kind villagers came together and said, “We want to help!” Together, they bought a safe and restful cottage, and created NEWS, Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse Services.

Over the past 40 years, tens of thousands of Napa County folk have found a path to safety and hope.

If you are experiencing abuse or would just like some information, please call our help line, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
