Sorry for our mistake! We would like to make sure we recognize the correct people, Coraima and Veronica from the District Attorney’s Office. We included the photo of another SAVS Stars for this month – a sneak peek for you all! Please find below the updated photo and article about our amazing partners from the DA’s Office!

Coraima and Veronica from the District Attorney’s Office

Each Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we honor those in our community who provide vital services to our sexual abuse survivors. Our SAVS Stars are those who stand by our survivors’ side, day-in and day-out. This week, we honor two Office Assistants to the Napa County District Attorney’s (DA) office.

Coraima and Veronica hold a special role. They offer such a warm welcome any time our SAVS Advocates are onsite for victim and Deputy DA meetings. Their friendly guidance makes a huge difference to our clients. Coraima and Veronica are often the first people clients see when entering the District Attorney’s office. Most of the time, a client is there for a vulnerable meeting and may have to relive their experience by sitting down and talking about it. But Coraima and Veronica set the tone for a comfortable experience.

This April, NEWS shares our appreciation for Coraima and Veronica because every part of the journey toward hope and justice matters to our clients.

If you are experiencing abuse or would just like some information, please call our help line, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Walk A Mile

Walk A Mile

The rain held off on Sunday for the 2nd Annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes Napa Valley! More than 150 people came to commemorate and walk to support survivors of sexual abuse!

Guest speakers both informed and inspired the crowd. Dr. Powell of Napa Valley College highlighted the importance of early prevention of sexual abuse and changing the narrative among young men. CC, a survivor, shared her inspiring story and a message of hope to all who have been—or are now—victims. And, Jessica from the Courage Center shared the role and resources it offers to survivors, especially our most vulnerable: children.

Walkers took to the streets with signs, spirit, and yep - red heels! Chanting and cheering, walkers made their way from Veteran's Park across the First Street Bridge, down Soscol, and across Third Street. Walkers were met with honks and cheers from passers-by - we made a statement!

We were honored to host all walkers, and want to give a shout out to our local dignitaries who walked for the cause, including: American Canyon Councilman Pierre Washington, Chief Mitch Celaya from Calistoga PD, City of Napa Mayor Scott Sedgley, County of Napa Supervisor Belia Ramos, and Napa County Sheriff Oscar Ortiz. Fourteen local partners joined in the fun to help promote a connected community - find a list of participating partners here if you are looking for resources.

Huge thanks to everyone who made this a memorable and festive event - including all of our coordinating partners and sponsors! See you next year!

What Were You Wearing

I was wearing an oversized pink fuzzy sweater and navy pajama shorts. He was tall, strong, drunk and refused to take no for an answer. I’ve never felt safe on campus again. These experiences have made me feel like I have no value to anyone outside of being an object.—University Student

“What Were You Wearing?” is an art exhibit based on student-survivor descriptions of the clothes they were wearing during their sexual assault. This installation provides a tangible response to one of our culture’s most pervasive sexual assault myths and asks participants to understand that sexual assault is never about the clothing. The display will be available for viewing at the Napa Valley College Library for the entire month of April. If you can’t make it to NVC this month, a graphic representation of the display is available HERE.
