Summer is here! July 1st marks the beginning of our new fiscal year, which is always time to reflect on where we have been and where we are going. We are coining this year “The Incredible NEWS Voyage”, as we have been on quite a journey. Despite change and challenge, NEWS, our staff, and our clients have experienced incredible growth.

Each service provided by NEWS is a piece of the essential parts of our clients’ experience and transition to a violence-free home. An emerging facet of NEWS’ increased services is our collaboration in the Monarch Justice Center. Located downtown across from the Napa Police Department, the Monarch Justice Center is a safe place for victims of crime to have access to services from county, city, and non-profit partners - all under one roof. NEWS is honored to have five Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault counselors on-site at the Monarch Justice Center to increase access to life-saving services.

Each NEWS staff member is a cog in this incredible organization that is powered by love and taking NEWS to new heights. Join us this year as we take flight on our next voyage to ensure a bright future for our clients.

NEWS has teamed up with Car Donations Services, Inc. (CDS) to provide you with an easy way to donate your vehicle, whether it is running or not! Enjoy peace of mind as CDS takes care of every aspect of your car donation. In March, one of our supporters began the car donation process with CDS who arranged for pick up, repair, and sale of the vehicle. By June, NEWS received a check for over $8,000! We were beyond honored that the donor chose us for such a thoughtful use of resources – and it will go to excellent use serving those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault in our community.

If you are experiencing abuse or would just like some information, please call our help line, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

NEWS is right in the middle of a volunteer training. Individuals who complete the 65-Hour training, and a successful evaluation thereafter, will be qualified Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselors. Why would you want to do this? We asked Nadine to tell us why she became a NEWS volunteer:

“I decided to become a NEWS volunteer this past year. I recently retired and decided that now was a good opportunity for me to expand my knowledge and understanding of the field of domestic violence and sexual assault. Taking the training expanded my understanding of all of the many different elements and aspects of a positive service in our community. The classes gave us opportunities to explore our knowledge, question our assumptions and engage in safe role playing. At the end of the training, we all felt anxious about our abilities, as it is when you learn any new skill. However, the staff from NEWS assured us that we were equipped to provide caring and supportive assistance.

I encourage all to get involved with NEWS. There are so many different opportunities and levels of support that you can help with. Being able to lend that helping hand, in whatever way you can, helps us all create a better community, one without violence or abuse.”
