COVID-19 UPDATE

NEWS is here to help!

NEWS is committed to supporting victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse, especially during this time of escalated stress and anxiety. Out of deep respect for the health of our employees and their families, our service deliveries have been altered slightly. In no way will our commitment to providing safety, hope, healing and empowerment for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse be minimized.

NEWS considers itself to be an “essential service” and we remain active and available to support those individuals and families suffering during this uncertain time.

On March 17th, NEWS staff started offering services remotely. NEWS program staff will do everything possible to provide compassionate trauma-informed care throughout this situation, with as little disruption as possible.

As of March 27th, NEWS is working to continue to maintain safe housing for our clients. We are experiencing a high volume of housing assistance requests. People requesting housing assistance may be asked to be put on a wait list to be contacted at a later date. We understand this is a very stressful time. We will contact those requesting services as quickly as possible. We ask that people requesting housing assistance have patience with us during this time as the NEWS Housing Program is doing its best to keep up with the needs of our community.

If you, or anyone you know, needs to access NEWS services at any time, please have them call our 24-hour help line (707) 255-6397 for immediate assistance. Also, visit us at www.napanews.org or email us at info@NapaNEWS.org.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration,

Tracy Lamb

Men Making NEWS 2014

Napa Emergency Women’s Services Now Accepting
Nominations For Men Making NEWS 2014

Napa Emergency Women’s Services is pleased to announce that their popular Men Making NEWS event will be held on June 13th this year. Nomination are now open.

To acknowledge the strength and worth of exceptional men guiding our community in Napa County who change the lives of families and youth for the better, Napa Emergency Women's Services (NEWS) will recognize three men. The three categories for 2014 are: Young Man of the Year, Male Role Model of the Year, and Father of the Year (or Father Figure).

An integral part of NEWS' mission is to work toward changing the aspects of our culture that perpetuate domestic violence. Therefore, NEWS wants to honor men who present positive male role models for our children, youth and community by publicly recognizing their outstanding contribution with a corresponding award. By acknowledging their accomplishments in teaching respect, non-violence and positive family values, we hope to inspire our community to do more to prevent the epidemic of family violence.

2014 Young Man of the Year
There is no better leader than one who starts young. Napa County has a wonderful youth community; therefore NEWS wants to acknowledge a male leader between the age of 13-21 who is passionate about ending violence and creating youth leadership in Napa County.

2014 Male Role Model of the Year
Who demonstrates to us that to be a real man requires strength not violence? Who illustrates that they are not the same thing? Who reminds us that respect for others is the greatest power? This nominee can be a teacher, mentor, preacher, police officer, firefighter, crossing guard, public service provider, coach, community volunteer, Scout Leader, or any other educator or community leader.

2014 Father of the Year
Raising a family can be hard enough, and raising an emotionally and physically healthy family is even harder.  NEWS celebrates a father, father figure or family mentor who has helped to enrich and create a better life for any family.

Awards
The awards will be presented during a recognition luncheon to be held at the Napa Elk’s Lodge on Friday, June 13th. Please save the date and make sure that you and your nominee will be able to attend the luncheon.
