NEWS About Sports Partners With Napa Valley...

In June 2019, our Program Manager Coach Bailie, became a certified trainer in Coaching Boys Into Men (CBIM) and Athletes As Leaders (AAL).  Coach Bailie makes available to our partners this evidence-based curriculum proven to increase protective factors against violence for both male and female athletes.  The curriculum provides athletic coaches with the tools they need to address critical topics with their players: respectful relationships with dating partners, consent and what to do if a player witnesses harassment or sexual assault.  The program empowers athletes, who are often leaders in school culture, to model healthy, respectful behaviors for their peers.

Our current partner is Napa Valley College where, in 2018, we collaborated with the Athletic Department to plan, implement and evaluate a gender-based violence prevention initiative with administration, coaches and athletes called, "Storm Against Violence” and implemented college editions of the CBIM and AAL curriculums.

NEWS About Sports is leveraging the success of our Napa Valley College partnership to expand our prevention program across Napa County.  Over the next year, we will engage the athletic departments within Napa Valley Unified School District and community sporting organizations.  This goal provides the framework for NEWS to create a cohesive violence prevention program across Napa County, engaging athletes of all ages and training coaches as positive messengers for respect and advocates against violence in our community.
