Safety is Paramount
The recent murder of Danielle Keller in nearby Novato is a stark reminder that providing safety to domestic violence victims can truly mean the difference between life and death.
It is typical in many domestic violence situations that when faced with the reality that his victim is finding the strength to leave, an abuser often becomes more obsessed than ever with the victim and the desire to control her, and the level of danger increases drastically. This unhealthy obsession can lead to severe injury or death for the victim or her family.
During this time, it is crucial that a victim be safely hidden from her abuser. Napa Emergency Women’s Services (NEWS) is here to provide that safety. Our 24-hour crisis line, immediate response to calls from law enforcement, emergency confidential shelter, legal advocacy, and support services can help a victim of domestic violence become a survivor of domestic violence.
It is our hope that hearing Danielle’s story may encourage someone in a similar situation to recognize the danger and utilize the NEWS safe shelter to prevent another tragedy like this from happening.
